Four Easy Steps to Choose a Color for Your Garage Door

Written by Garth

When you choose the right color for your garage door, it highlights the improvements made to the entire garage. So, how do you choose the right colors for your garage door? Here are 4 simple ways to do just that!

Complementing is important

You need to choose garage door colors that complement each other. Your renovation may include Floortex™ floor coating, new cabinets, or a brand new garage door installation. If that is the case, you want to make sure each feature complements the other, no I don’t mean verbal complementing. The right colors for your garage door paint will open up your available space, make it stand out, and can even improve your pride in your home.  You can do this by choosing colors that pop, adding your personality into the space by adding bold colors to the cabinets in the garage. You can add a bright shade to the interior that leads to the entrance of your home to tie in with the cabinets.  Or if you choose a speckled flooring, you can use colors from it to tie the room together.

What color do I pick?

Deciding on the right color for your garage door is important as it can affect so much. A freshly painted wall can even improve the lighting in your garage if the right color is chosen. The lighter shades will reflect light in your garage better, however, they will also easily show any dirt or grime that may appear in your garage. A neutral color, such as tan, gray, or beige is a much better choice than white as it will be easier to maintain than a white shade. There is also a lot more flexibility in design than there is with white. If you are looking for a lighter shade, then using a semi-gloss paint would be a great choice. This type of paint makes dirt appear less evident than regular paint, and also is better for less wear and tear after a cleaning. If your garage door is prone to having condensation issues, then you may want a more resilient exterior paint for your garage door.

Choosing the Best Garage Door Floor Color

There are many options for garage door floors, but we are kind of partial to using Garage Living’s polyaspartic Floortex™ floor coating. It has a large number of colors that are attractive and unique to choose from. You can choose anything from a natural look with charcoal, or a bold look like Orbit, the options are nearly endless. There is something for any of your decor needs. This coating is easy to clean and maintain, which is why we recommend it. The textured look of decorative flakes that are sprinkled during the application, does a great job at hiding the dust and dirt that gather in your garage.

Last color thoughts

Your garage door makes up about 30% of your home, so it is important to choose a good color. There are a lot of options for color schemes for a home’s exterior, however there are some guidelines that cover what to do for your garage door.

  • The front door needs to be your focus, so don’t take attention away from it with your garage door. Don’t make them the same color either.
  • Choose a soft color rather than a loud primary color.
  • Complement the colors of your home with your garage door color.

Hey there, Garage door friends! I’m Garth.   I started the Garage Door Club on a whim in early 2018. I wasn’t even sure what a DIY blog was at the time, but I knew that my years of experience writing & creating digital content for a reputable garage door repair company could be beneficial to those who typically seem to be lost when facing a dilemma with their garage doors.   READ MORE
