Five Tips on How to Organize Your Old Garage This Summer

Written by Garth

Tips to Organize Your Old GarageFall is almost here but for some of us that does not mean the temperature is going down. If it does mean cooler weather for you, then why not clean out your garage? You might even discover those old holiday decorations you stashed in there years ago. Maybe you’ll find out you have a pest infestation that you need to take care of. Whether it turns up good or bad news, it is still worth cleaning out your garage. Keeping your garage organized can really save you a lot of trouble down the line. What exactly should you be cleaning? Thankfully, we have some answers for that.

Get Rid of Garage Clutter!

Most people have trouble even fitting their cars in the garage. That is sad but very common. Actually, most people never park their cars in their garage. That is a waste of protection for your vehicle that without a doubt could save you a lot of trouble. It’s not just about having room to walk through your garage. Some folks can’t even see through their garage! That is a fire hazard on top of everything else. So don’t just reorganize everything in your garage… Get rid of some of it or store it somewhere else!

Clean The Floors While You Can

Once you have removed the clutter you can look at the rest of your garage. You may find yourself looking down at the floors and realizing something. Mainly that your garage floors are completely gross. This isn’t just a cosmetic issue, either. For starters, you need to protect your garage floors so that they last longer. Replacing garage floors isn’t like throwing down a new rug. It is also a likely health hazard if you don’t ever clean them. If you store your car in there, then you might have a lot of oil and other fluids leaking from it. If you store everything else in there, well… Rat and other animal droppings are a good possibility. Then there is just general dust. So keep it clean!

Figure Out What You Need, Then Label & Zone Everything!Organize and Label Everything - Five Tips on How to Organize Your Old Garage

The first thing you need to do to organize your garage is figure out what you need to do so. Look at your inventory of items and then decide how you want to store them and in what, if anything. Large bulky items should typically be stored as is. Small items need to be stored together but sorted. Speaking of which, find a zone for everything in your garage. There should be a zone for your car. A zone for storage, even a zone for your workshop if you have one. Then, feel free to sticker anything and everything. Labeling boxes and even shelves will remind you and everyone else where things go.

Hey there, Garage door friends! I’m Garth.   I started the Garage Door Club on a whim in early 2018. I wasn’t even sure what a DIY blog was at the time, but I knew that my years of experience writing & creating digital content for a reputable garage door repair company could be beneficial to those who typically seem to be lost when facing a dilemma with their garage doors.   READ MORE
